Financial Information

Greek-letter organizations have been self-sufficient since their inception. Fraternities and sororities pay their own way through dues, membership fees and one-time new member or initiation fees. Cost of membership in a Greek organization varies, depending on the organization and housing options. However, the cost of living in a fraternity or sorority house is generally comparable to living on campus.

Alabama Panhellenic Association

• New Member Fees Per Semester (First Year Only):
  • $4,170.03 (Avg.) – $4,978.00 (High)
  • Includes chapter meal plan, local chapter fees, and inter/national fees as well as one-time fees associated with pledging and initiation.
    • New Members joining a chapter with a full-service kitchen will automatically have their University meal plan reduced to the Fraternity and Sorority Alternative Meal Plan, which includes 55 meals a semester in any of the all you can eat dining halls, provided their name and CWID is submitted to the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life by the required deadline.

            Fraternity and Sorority Alternative Meal Plan

            Since some fraternities and sororities also have their own required meal plan, the University and Bama Dining allow new members of these organizations the option of choosing a Fraternity and Sorority Alternative Meal Plan, also known as the Greek Essential Meal Plan.

            Students will automatically be charged for the All Access meal plan, but during Bama Bound will be given the option of downgrading to the Silver 125 meal plan. After July 29th, students will no longer be permitted to downgrade to the Silver 125. First-year students, who join a fraternity or sorority with a full-service kitchen that offers 10 or more meals per week, can have their All Access/Silver 125 meal plan reduced to the Greek Essential meal plan (55 meals per semester) at $805. The fraternity/sorority must submit a new member roster to the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life (OFSL) by the required deadline of September 30 for the fall semester and February 15 for the spring semester. Any meal swipes used prior to the downgrade will be subtracted from the original 55 swipes.

            Students are responsible for reviewing their student account to verify that the downgrade has been applied. Please note that downgrades and/or refunds are not available after the deadline.
